Toronto Blue Jays top prospect left-hander Ricky Tiedemann is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Wednesday as he works his way back from a shoulder injury, the club says.
Tiedemann reported no problems in a side session on Saturday.
The 20-year-old is ranked 31st on Baseball America’s annual list of the game’s top prospects.
A 2021 third-round pick, Tiedemann excelled across three levels last year, posting a 2.17 ERA over 18 total starts. A year that started at low-A Dunedin ended in the upper minors with four starts at double-A New Hampshire.
Meanwhile, Blue Jays right-hander Mitch White (shoulder) is scheduled to throw 45 pitches in a minor-league game Wednesday. The club would like to get him in a major-league game before spring training ends next Tuesday.
White was expected to battle Yusei Kikuchi for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation at spring training, but the injury prevented has prevented that competition from happening.
The Blue Jays could use White in a long relief role as he has alternated between the starting rotation and bullpen during his major-league career.
Acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, White was a combined 1-7 with a 5.45 ERA in 25 appearances (18 starts) last year.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have announced Kikuchi will start Thursday, Alek Manoah on Friday and Kevin Gausman on Saturday.
All opening-day starters are expected to be announced on Friday -- and Manoah and Gausman both could make that March 30 start against the St. Louis Cardinals on normal rest.
The Blue Jays face the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday at 1:07 p.m. ET. Watch the game on Sportsnet or Sportsnet NOW.
