The bad luck continues for Danny Jansen.
The Toronto Blue Jays catcher took a ball off his right hand off a foul tip by Nolan Jones of the Colorado Rockies on Friday. He was replaced by Alejandro Kirk when his turn came up in the order in the seventh and was later diagnosed with a fractured right middle finger, per manager John Schneider.
"Unfortunate," Schneider said.
In the top of the sixth, Jansen hit his career-best 17th home run to give Toronto a 4-2 lead, before suffering the fracture.
Schneider also told reporters that there are more tests to come for the 28-year-old catcher. The fracture is near the knuckle.
Jansen has been sidelined several times this year after being hit by pitches.
"One of those things as a catcher, it's a pretty freak injury," Schneider said. "It seems like those are kind of coming in bunches right now."
In a corresponding move, triple-A catcher Tyler Heineman will join the team in Colorado.
Jansen has been a productive hitter for the Blue Jays this year, coming through with some of the team's most significant hits.
Jansen is slashing .228/.312/.474 with 17 homers and 53 RBIs.
