• Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido leaves game with neck discomfort after running hard into wall

The Toronto Blue Jays lost outfielder Joey Loperfido to an injury on the first batter of Tuesday's spring training game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The speedy outfielder was hurt chasing down a fly ball in deep centre when he collided with the wall. Loperfido was slow to get up and was removed from the game after a meeting with trainers. Toronto said he left with neck discomfort.

Manager John Schneider said after the game that Loperfido should be fine and was not showing concussion-like symptoms, per MLB. com's Keegan Matheson.

The 25-year-old was one of the key prospects the Blue Jays received in the Yusei Kikuchi trade with the Astros last season.

He appeared in 81 games as a rookie between Houston and Toronto, hitting .214/.264/.350 with four home runs and 25 RBIs.

He is expected to compete for a spot in the outfield for the Jays this spring.
