Blue Jays' Jordan Romano to replace Gerrit Cole at All-Star Game

Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano speaks about his first career All-Star trip, says it's special to see his and coaches' hard work paying off together.

Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano will replace New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole on the American League roster at the All-Star Game, MLB announced Sunday.

This will be Romano's first presence in the Midsummer Classic.

Cole is scheduled to pitch on Sunday as the Yankees close out their series against the Boston Red Sox, thus ruling him out of pitching in the All-Star Game.

Romano, from Markham, Ont., has accumulated 37 strikeouts and 19 saves in 34 games for the Blue Jays this season.

He will join Blue Jays teammates Alejandro Kirk, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Santiago Espinal and Alek Manoah at the All-Star Game. George Springer was also named to the American League roster but will not be attending.
