The Toronto Blue Jays made the signing of infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa on a two-year, $15-million contract official on Friday.
Kiner-Falefa, 28, spent the 2023 season with the New York Yankees, appearing in 115 games for the Jays AL East rival.
The Honolulu, HI, native hit .242 last year with six home runs and 37 RBIs over 361 plate appearances, also stealing 14 bases. He owns a .261 career batting average through six seasons and 649 MLB games.
According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, incentives on the contract can increase the total value of the contract up to $16 million.
Kiner-Falefa will bring defensive versatility to the Blue Jays as a utility player, as he's appeared at every position on the field throughout his career besides first base. Notably, he pitched on four occasions for the Yankees in 2023.
The fourth-round draft pick in 2013 by the Texas Rangers also won a Gold Glove Award as a member of the club in 2020.
Signing Kiner-Falefa was the second move in what was a busy week for Toronto. On Dec. 26 the Blue Jays re-signed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier to a one-year, $10 million contract.
