Toronto Blue Jays starter Alek Manoah's early season struggles don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
The 2022 Cy Young finalist lasted just one-third of an inning, the shortest outing of his career, on Monday against the defending champion Houston Astros, punctuating what a difficult stretch for the hurler.
Manoah was given the start in the hopes of turning his luck around following a disappointing four-inning performance against the Brewers on May 31, but instead did just the opposite.
Manager John Schneider pulled the all-star starter after having recorded just one out after allowing six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam by rookie Corey Julks. Manoah tossed just 38 pitches before getting the hook.
The 25-year-old has been suffering from an elongated rough patch following his breakout performance for the Blue Jays last season, boasting an inflated 5.74 ERA coming into tonight's game to go along with just one win in 13 starts.
Manoah was replaced by reliever Jay Jackson.
