Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Mitch White experienced shoulder fatigue in his rehab outing in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday.
White returned to Toronto to get checked out and the Blue Jays should have a clearer idea of his status by Friday. His 30-day rehab assignment which began April 26 remains active.
White was expected to battle Yusei Kikuchi for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation at spring training, but the injury has prevented that competition from happening.
The Blue Jays could use White in a long relief role as he has alternated between the starting rotation and bullpen during his major-league career.
Acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, White was a combined 1-7 with a 5.45 ERA in 25 appearances (18 starts) last year.
Reliever Adam Cimber was back with the Blue Jays in Toronto, but has not been activated yet from the 15-day injured list. Cimber is expected to return soon after throwing 16 pitches in a scoreless inning during a rehab assignment with triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
Cimber has been sidelined with a rhomboid strain in his throwing arm. He has a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings this season with six strikeouts.
