Blue Jays option Pearson to Buffalo, activate recently acquired Cabrera

The Toronto Blue Jays made a pair of roster moves ahead of Sunday's series-closer against the Seattle Mariners.

Right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, making way for lefty Génesis Cabrera, who was acquired on Friday from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cabrera, 26, was 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA and 1.563 WHIP in 32 games with the struggling Cardinals this season.

Pearson had given up six runs in his last two appearances, including the winner in Saturday's 9-8 loss to the Mariners. He is 5-2 this season in 29 appearances, posting a 4.75 ERA and 1.167 WHIP.

According to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling, Pearson is being granted time to "work on some adjustments away from MLB," specifically with regards to his breaking ball, and is expected to be back with the Blue Jays this season
