The Toronto Blue Jays have placed left-handed reliever Tim Mayza on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder dislocation, the team announced Sunday.
Mayza exited the Blue Jays' 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night following an attempt to grab a bunted ball during a safety squeeze play and colliding with Twins base runner Nick Gordon.
After lying on the ground in pain, Mayza continued to clutch his right shoulder as he was helped up and assisted off of the field.
Right-handed relief pitcher Trent Thornton has been recalled from triple-A Buffalo and will be active for Sunday’s game against the Twins.
Mayza, 30, has registered a 5-0 record with a 2.88 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 41 appearances and 34.1 innings of work during the 2022 season.
