  • Blue Jays place Zach Pop on 15-day IL, recall Jay Jackson from triple-A Buffalo

    The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-handed reliever Zach Pop on the 15-day IL with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Friday.

    Toronto also recalled reliever Jay Jackson from triple-A buffalo.

    Pop exited Thursday’s game against the Boston Red Sox with right hamstring discomfort.

    The native of Brampton, Ont. appeared to suffer the injury during the bottom of the eighth inning and needed help to get off the field.

    Pop pitched two-thirds of the eighth inning before exiting, giving up two hits and three earned runs.

      Pop has had his struggles recently, registering a 6.59 ERA over 13.2 innings pitched for the Blue Jays this season.

      In and out of the major leagues since 2015, the 35-year-old Jackson was one of the final cuts at spring training this year.

      Jackson is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA, 15 strikeouts and two walks in 10.2 innings with Buffalo this year.

        The Blue Jays bullpen has hit a rut during the current five-game losing streak. The relievers also have had a heavy workload as all five Blue Jays starters couldn’t make it through six innings the last time through the rotation.
