Blue Jays players, personnel wear No. 21 in honour of Roberto Clemente

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios, Luis Rivera and Charlie Montoyo talk about what the legendary Puerto Rican, Roberto Clemente meant to them, and talk about how important it is to wear #21 on their jersey as a tribute to him.

Wednesday marks the 20th annual Roberto Clemente Day across Major League Baseball.

To celebrate the Puerto Rican Hall-of-Fame baseball player, several Blue Jays players and personnel will be wearing the No. 21 when the team hosts the Tampa Bay Rays, including manager Charlie Montoyo, coach Luis Rivera, pitcher Jose Berrios, team translator Hector Lebron and infielders Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

With Wednesday being the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Major League Baseball announced that Sept. 15 will be deemed Roberto Clemente Day in subsequent years.

Clemente, a 15-time All-Star, finished with 3,000 hits, won two World Series titles and the Gold Glove award 15 times. He was killed in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1972 at the age of 38.

Every year in his honour, the Roberto Clemente Award is given to the player who "best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions."

Bichette is the Blue Jays nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award this year.
