Adam Macko's chance to impress at spring training just took a big hit.
The Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect was diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his left knee, Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Monday.
Schneider said that Macko felt something over the weekend and that he's probably looking at surgery to repair the injury.
The Blue Jays acquired the six-foot southpaw from the Seattle Mariners alongside Erik Swanson in exchange for Teoscar Hernandez in the 2022 off-season.
Macko, a Slovakia-born, Alberta-raised prospect has worked his way up the organizational ladder since joining the Jays.
The 24-year-old lefty made his triple-A debut last year with the Buffalo Bisons. Macko allowed four hits, three earned runs and three walks while striking out three in the outing against the New York Yankees' triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Macko spent the entirety of the 2023 campaign pitching in high-A for the Vancouver Canadians and moved up to double-A New Hampshire in 2024. Over 81.1 innings with the Fisher Cats, Macko posted a 4.87 ERA and 3.72 FIP with 90 strikeouts and 30 walks.
MLB Pipeline had Macko as the Blue Jays' No. 9 overall prospect and No. 5 pitching prospect in 2024.
