The Toronto Blue Jays have reinstated closer Ken Giles from the 45-day injured list and the right-hander will be active for Friday night’s game against the New York Mets.
In addition to Giles returning, the Blue Jays have also selected the contract of catching prospect Alejandro Kirk and recalled righty Jacob Waguespack.
The 29-year-old Giles has been on the injured list since July 27 after suffering a strain in his right forearm against the Tampa Bay Rays on the opening weekend of the season.
Kirk has yet to play above class A for the organization after being signed as an international free agent in 2016. The 21-year-old played in 92 total games with the Lansing Lugnuts and Dunedin Blue Jays in 2019, hitting .290/.403/.465 with seven home runs and 44 RBI combined for both teams.
In corresponding moves, right-hander Sean Reid-Foley has been optioned to Toronto’s alternate training site in Rochester, while catcher Caleb Joseph and outfielder Billy McKinney have been designated for assignment.
