Ricky Tiedemann will make his spring training debut for the Toronto Bue Jays on Saturday, manager John Schneider told reporters.
Tiedemann has been sidelined with left knee/hamstring soreness which forced him to miss his first scheduled start of spring training.
The Blue Jays top prospect threw a simulated game and was encouraged with his fastball sitting in the 95-97 m.p.h. range and while he described his pitch mix as “slider-dominant,” he showed off a couple change-ups too.
Toronto is also hopeful Kevin Gausman can get off a mound by Monday, Schneider said. That would be two and a half weeks ahead of the team's season opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Blue Jays ace has been day-to-day with a sore shoulder but an MRI revealed no structural damage. The soreness has prevented Gausman from pitching in any of the team’s Grapefruit League games so far.
The team is hopeful that Gausman, who went 12-9 with a 3.16 ERA in 2023, can resume ramping up for the season soon.
