Blue Jays' Ryu to have MRI after leaving start vs. White Sox with forearm tightness

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu speaks after the game about his injury, says he felt fine prior to the game but ultimately regrets pitching today.

Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu was lifted from Wednesday's start against the Chicago White Sox due to left forearm tightness, the team announced.

Manager Charlie Montoyo said Ryu will have an MRI on his arm to determine how serious the injury is.

"It's kind of the same thing he had last time, his foreman got tight," Montoyo said, complimenting the lefty for giving his team four innings through pain. "So of course now we've got to take pictures to see how he's doing."

Ryu allowed four hits and three runs, two earned over four innings in the game. Two of the four hits were home runs, while he had four strikeouts on 58 pitches.

It's the second straight start Ryu has had to leave due to a concern with his pitching arm. On May 27, he left a start against the Angels after five innings due to left elbow soreness. After that game, Montoyo said the injury wasn't a major concern.

Ryu, 35, did miss nearly a full month earlier in the season due to a forearm injury. He had a 5.48 ERA over five starts entering play Wednesday.

After the game, Ryu said he "kind of regrets" pitching in the game and compared the feeling to the injury that forced him to miss starts in April and May.

"I don't think it's similar to my last start, it felt more similar to my start earlier in the season when I was hurt," Ryu said through a translator.
