The Toronto Blue Jays have selected reliever A.J. Cole to the 26-man roster and placed catcher Alejandro Kirk on the 60-day injured list, the team announced Saturday.
The team has also optioned right-hander Ty Tice to triple-A.
Cole, 29, has yet to make an appearance for the Blue Jays this season. In 24 games for Toronto in 2020, Cole was 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA and 1.200 WHIP across 23.1 innings.
Kirk suffered a hip-flexor injury on May 1 against the Atlanta Braves and Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said earlier this week that the 22-year-old was expected to miss at least four weeks. The earliest Kirk can now return to action is July 2.
In other injury news, the Blue Jays are going day-by-day with reliever Rafael Dolis, who suffered a Grade 1 calf strain in Friday’s loss to Houston. Righty Anthony Castro is eligible to return this coming Tuesday after being place on the 10-day injured list on May 2 with a right forearm strain.
