Blue Jays' Semien sets single-season home run record by second baseman

Watch as Marcus Semien launches a two-run home run for his 44th of the year, an MLB record for home runs by a second baseman in a single season.

In the bottom of the first inning, Marcus Semien crushed his 44th home run of the season, a towering 102.3 MPH, two-run shot to left field to give the Toronto Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.

Semien's 44th is the highest single-season mark by a second baseman in MLB history. The previous record was set by Davey Johnson in 1973.

The 31-year-old also recorded his 100th RBI with the home run, making him the third Blue Jays player this season to reach that milestone. Bo Bichette became the fourth just two innings later.
