Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano has hit a setback in his road to recovery.
The Blue Jays are shutting down Romano for a couple of days after he experienced soreness in his right elbow Friday.
The 31-year-old Romano was expected to throw off a mound Saturday and Sunday.
Romano was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 1, retroactive to May 30, due to right elbow inflammation.
He had an injection in his pitching elbow two days later that was similar to the one he received in spring training before beginning the season on the IL.
The right-hander from Markham, Ont., has earned eight saves with a 6.59 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 13.2 innings this season.
