The Toronto Blue Jays have signed 18 of their selections from the 2022 MLB Draft, including first-round pick Brandon Barriera.
In addition to the 18 selections, the Blue Jays have also signed three undrafted free agents.
Barriera, 18, is a left-handed pitcher who the Blue Jays selected 23rd overall. By signing with the Jays, he is forgoing a commitment made to play college ball at Vanderbilt.
Barriera was selected out of American Heritage School in Florida and has a four-pitch mix with a fastball that ranges from 90 to 95 mph to go with a changeup, curveball, and slider.
“I'm glad they picked me,” he said of the Blue Jays on draft night. “It's such a great organization and the development they have on that side is amazing, too. When you look at their team, they play their young guys, they're not scared to bring up their young guys. That's something that I would love to be a part of.”
