The Toronto Blue Jays are signing hard-throwing right-handed pitcher Julian Fernández to a minor-league deal, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.
The 27-year-old spent the 2022 season with triple-A Albuquerque posting a 2-5 record with a 6.63 ERA and 65 strikeouts through 57 innings pitched. Fernandez appeared in six games with the Colorado Rockies posting a 10.80 ERA through 6.2 innings pitched.
During the 2021 season, Fernandez averaged 99 m.p.h. on his fastball but also topped out at 103 m.p.h.
