The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to put the brakes on a six-game losing streak when they open a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday as +140 road underdogs on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Toronto closed out a dismal homestand with a 14-8 extra-innings loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon, dumping the club’s record to an even 23-23 going into Tuesday night’s matchup at Yankee Stadium.
Riding high while winning nine of their previous 12 contests, the Blue Jays have struggled mightily to contain opposing hitters during their current slide. With Monday’s loss to Tampa Bay, the team has now surrendered a hefty 7.83 runs per game over its six recent losses and now find themselves stalled in fourth place in the AL East, 5.5 games back of the Rays.
While the Blue Jays have struggled, New York has been red hot of late. Listed as -160 favourites at sports betting sites for Tuesday’s series opener with Corey Kluber scheduled to take the mound against Steven Matz, the Yankees ride a six-game win streak that has lifted them to within one game of first place in the AL East standings.

The Yankees enjoyed a day off on Monday after extending their current surge with a 5-4 victory over the visiting Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The team has built its rise up the standings with steady defence, as the Yankees have surrendered just 1.50 runs per game during their current 6-0 run. In addition, they have produced consistent results on home turf since opening the season on a shaky 4-7 run at Yankee Stadium. New York has won 10 of 13 home contests since, surrendering just 10 runs while posting wins in five straight at home.
However, success has eluded the Yankees in recent dates with Toronto. The Blue Jays took two of three from New York during a low-scoring season-opening series at Yankee Stadium, and have claimed the win in seven of 10 meetings since last September according to the OddsShark MLB Database. However, Toronto has failed to record consecutive road series wins over the Yankees in 37 visits to the Big Apple since 2016.
Injuries could have an impact on both these clubs going into Tuesday night. A back injury landed third baseman Cavan Biggio on the IL this past weekend. Biggio joins slugger George Springer, who remains sidelined with a nagging quad injury. Meanwhile, the Yankees continue to make do without injured outfielder Aaron Hicks, but could see Giancarlo Stanton’s big bat return to the lineup as early as Tuesday.
