Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernandez has been has been placed on the 10-day injured list with an oblique injury, the team announced on Monday.
Outfielder Jonathan Davis was recalled as Hernandez’s replacement from the team’s alternate training site for Monday’s game against the New York Yankees.
Hernandez sustained the injury during the Blue Jays’ 9-8 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night, in which he hit a home run and a double.
The 27-year-old has been enjoying a breakout 2020 season. He is slashing .308/.358/.637, is second among MLB hitters with 14 home runs and leads Toronto with 27 RBIs.
The Blue Jays also placed right-hander Wilmer Font on the 10-day injured list with a right shin contusion. Sean Reid-Foley was subsequently recalled and is available against the Yankees.
