Major League Baseball announced updated spring training schedules on Friday afternoon and the Toronto Blue Jays will see Grapefruit League action from March 18 to April 5.
The Jays will start spring training by visiting the Baltimore Orioles on March 18, with game time yet to be determined. Toronto will play its first game at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla., on March 20 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Blue Jays' Grapefruit League schedule will span 17 games, including nine home games.
Under the revised MLB schedule, Cactus League clubs will play a minimum of 17 or 18 games across the 21-day window. Grapefruit League clubs will be split between two regions. Florida's east coast clubs will play a minimum of 18 games, while Florida's west coast clubs will play a minimum of 15 or 16 games.
Major League Baseball and the players union reached a deal Thursday on a new collective bargaining agreement that will effectively end a 99-day lockout after ratification, clearing the path for a full 162-game season.
The season is set to start April 7 – seven days after the original start date of March 31. Spring training is set to open on Sunday.
Spring training in Arizona and Florida was disrupted for the third straight year after two pre-seasons altered by the coronavirus pandemic. Spring training games had been scheduled to start Feb. 26.
Players will have about 28 days of training rather than the usual 42 for pitchers and catchers.
