The Toronto Blue Jays-Minnesota Twins game on Sunday was reduced to three officials when home-plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt had to leave the game in the fourth inning.
Wendelstedt was injured on a foul tip by Jays hitter Daulton Varsho, which struck the umpire flush on his left forearm. He crouched down in pain and was attended to by the Blue Jays' trainer, before crew chief Marvin Hudson determined Wendelstedt needed to leave the game.
There was a delay as first-base umpire Brian Walsh had to don protective gear to take over behind the plate.
