For the first time since 2022, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will play at third base for the Toronto Blue Jays.
As the Blue Jays go for a series win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, they are running out their most offence-oriented lineup of the season.
Guerrero came up through the minors as a third baseman and debuted at the position in 2019, spending 824.1 innings at the hot corner before shifting over to first base in 2020.
Since moving across the diamond full-time, he has played just four innings at third base. In those four innings, he took over at third as a defensive replacement and had no opportunities to make a play.
His last actual start at the position came on Sep. 27, 2019.
In 2019, Guerrero had a .936 fielding percentage at third to go along with -3 defensive runs saved and -20 outs above average.
According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith, the 25-year-old often takes ground balls at third base during spring training and during the season.
With Guerrero sliding over to third, the Blue Jays will have both Justin Turner and Daniel Vogelbach in the lineup against Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa has played the most innings at third for Toronto this season, but will play second base in Sunday's contest.
You can watch as Chris Bassitt and the Blue Jays' new-look infield go for their second straight series win at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
