Daniel Vogelbach is set to replace Justin Turner as designated hitter for the Toronto Blue Jays as they take on the Kansas City Royals for Game 3 of the series on Wednesday.
Turner, 29, has been one of the most consistent hitters for the Blue Jays this season, with 28 hits, four home runs and 15 RBI in 94 at-bats for a .298 average. He signed a one-year, $13-million contract in Toronto as a free agent.
Vogelbach, like Turner, was acquired by the Blue Jays via free agency, when he signed a minor-league contract. In 18 at-bats this season, Vogelbach has two hits and one RBI for an average of .111.
