Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Mitch White is scheduled to pitch in a game environment this week after entering camp with a right shoulder impingement, the team said Sunday.
White could pitch in a simulated game or a spring-training outing.
White was expected to battle Yusei Kikuchi for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation at spring training, but the injury prevented has prevented that competition from happening.
The Blue Jays could use White in a long relief role as he has alternated between the starting rotation and bullpen during his major-league career.
Acquired in a trade deadline deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, White was a combined 1-7 with a 5.45 ERA in 25 appearances (18 starts) last year.
Meanwhile, top prospect left-hander Ricky Tiedemann (shoulder) reported no problems after a side session on Saturday. He'll throw another bullpen in the near future.
The Blue Jays return to spring-training action on Monday at 1:05 p.m. ET / 10:05 a.m. PT against the Detroit Tigers. Watch the game on Sportsnet or Sportsnet NOW.
