Will Wagner's sensational MLB debut on Monday seems to have earned him some more playing time moving forward.
Wagner will once again be in the Toronto Blue Jays' starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He will start at second base and bat sixth, just as he did Monday.
The son of legendary Houston Astros pitcher Billy Wagner made his first big league start on Monday, and he left quite the impression.
Wagner lined the first pitch he saw, a second-inning fastball from Angels right-hander Davis Daniel, into the right-centre field gap for a double. In his second plate appearance, he hit an RBI single.
In his third at-bat, he stayed perfect with another single to the right side. With his third hit, Wagner became just the fourth player in Blue Jays history to record three hits in his first MLB game. Danny Ainge (1979), Pat Borders (1988) and JP Arenceibia (2010) were the other three to do so.
He also made a few nice defensive plays and showed he could handle himself on both sides of the ball. It's just one game, but Blue Jays fans had to be encouraged by what they saw from the 26-year-old infielder.
Wagner was acquired by the Blue Jays on July 29 in a three-player package that sent left-hander Yusei Kikuchi to Houston. The move came on Wagner’s 26th birthday.
You can watch Wagner try and continue his hot start with the Blue Jays against the Angels live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.
