The Toronto Blue Jays have put right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list due to thoracic spine inflammation, the team announced Tuesday.
Rodriguez was experiencing back soreness after his start Monday night against the Kansas City Royals.
The 27-year-old Cuban rookie gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits over 3.2 innings of work and did not factor in the decision as the Blue Jays earned a 6-5 victory. He threw 82 pitches with one strikeout and three walks.
Rodriguez has a 0-1 record, 4.11 ERA and 16 strikeouts over four starts.
The Blue Jays recalled right-handed pitcher Zach Pop, who will be active for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
Pop has made nine relief appearances with triple-A Buffalo this season posting a 0-1 record, 1.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 9.2 innings.
The 27-year-old from Brampton, Ont., played in 15 games with the Blue Jays last year and had a 6.59 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 13.2 innings.
