Designated hitter Brandon Belt will return to the lineup for the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday against the Colorado Rockies after sitting out the last two games with back spasms.
Belt's absence on Tuesday was one reason cited by manager John Schneider in his decision not to pinch-run for Alejandro Kirk late in a 5-4 loss against the Washington Nationals. Schneider was heavily criticized for the decision.
Belt has been one of Toronto's better hitters. He has an OPS of .834 to go along with 15 homers and 37 RBIs.
With shortstop Bo Bichette and third baseman Matt Chapman on the injured list, Schneider continues to have to be creative with his lineup.
Hot-hitting call-up Davis Schnieder will make his second start at third base at bat second. He has played second base for the bulk of his time with Toronto.
Whit Merrifield plays second base and Ernie Clement remains at shortstop.
