Braves' Spencer Strider to make spring debut Monday

Spencer Strider's path back from UCL reconstruction surgery will continue on a spring training mound this week.

The Atlanta Braves announced Sunday morning that the 26-year-old ace will get his first start since last April when the team takes on the Boston Red Sox in Venice, Fla., on Monday afternoon.

Strider only made two starts for Atlanta in 2024 before receiving an internal brace to repair the damaged UCL in his pitching elbow.

The right-hander isn't expected to be ready for Opening Day, but MLB.com's Mark Bowman reported Sunday that there's now a chance he could rejoin the Braves' rotation by the middle of April.

A breakout star in 2022, Strider finished fourth in Cy Young voting in 2023 after leading the National League with 20 wins and 281 strikeouts over 186.2 innings.

Over his two appearances in 2024, the six-foot Strider allowed seven earned runs in nine innings while striking out 12.

Atlanta ended 2024 with an 89-73 record, claiming the second wild-card spot in the National League.
