Right-handed starter Spencer Strider was evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas on Monday, but the Atlanta Braves aren't quite ready to reveal how the meeting went.
Speaking to reporters before the team's game on Tuesday, manager Brian Snitker said that the team won't release any information until the weekend. However, he did reveal that the visit didn't rule out any potential surgery for the Braves ace.
Snitker also said that Atlanta's medical team is currently putting together a timeline for the next steps for Strider.
Strider underwent Tommy John surgery in February of 2019 while he was a sophomore at Clemson University.
After allowing five runs on seven hits over four innings in Atlanta’s 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, he complained about elbow discomfort.
Strider was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday after undergoing an MRI that revealed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.
The 25-year-old has been one of the top pitchers in baseball since making his debut in 2021. He owns a career 3.47 ERA with 495 strikeouts in 329.2 innings. In 2023, he led MLB in wins and strikeouts.
His elbow injury has headlined a rash of pitching injuries across baseball. Shane Bieber, Nick Pivetta, Eury Perez and Framber Valdez are just some of the other starters to have been sidelined by elbow injuries.
Three-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander called it "a pandemic" on Monday.
