After having a memorable MLB debut, Tyler Black is heading back to triple-A Nashville.
The Milwaukee Brewers announced Wednesday that they have reinstated outfielder Christian Yelich from the 10-day injured list and optioned the Canadian Black back to the minors.
Yelich, 32, was off to a blistering start before his injury. The 2018 NL MVP is batting .333 with a .422 on-base percentage, .744 slugging percentage, five homers and 11 RBIs in 11 games.
After going 2-for-4 in his debut with the Brewers, including a single with his dad and Canadian sports broadcaster Rod Black on the broadcast, Tyler went 3-for-19 over his next five games.
The younger Black was a first-round pick of the Brewers in the 2021 draft and broke out as a top-100 prospect in baseball with a strong 2023 campaign.
He only built on that in the minor leagues in 2024, slashing .303/.393/.525 with five home runs, three triples and three stolen bases in his first 25 MiLB games of the season.
Black is currently ranked as the No. 42 prospect by MLB Pipeline — the top-ranked Canadian, beating out Chicago Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie by one spot.
The Brewers entered play Tuesday with a 21-14 record, good for first place in the NL Central.
