Catcher Brian Serven will be on the Toronto Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, manager John Schneider confirmed Saturday.
Serven has been playing in Danny Jansen's place during spring training after the starter suffered a fractured right pisiform.
The Blue Jays picked up Serven after he was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs. The 28-year-old appeared in 11 games for the Colorado Rockies last season and collected three hits but also displayed impressive defensive metrics.
In 12 games during spring training, Serven hitting .217/.333/.696 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
Payton Henry was battling Serven for the spot.
Alejandro Kirk is expected to be Toronto's No. 1 catcher until Jansen returns.
