The Toronto Blue Jays will start newcomer Ernie Clement at second base and rookie Nathan Lukes in right field for Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Clement, who will bat eighth, was selected to the major-league roster on Tuesday after starting the season at triple-A Buffalo. He got a hit in a pinch-hitting appearance in Tuesday's 20-1 win
The 27-year-old native of Rochester, N.Y. played 110 combined games the past two seasons with the Cleveland Guardians and Oakland A's. For his career, he is slashing .207/.263/,267 with three homers and 15 RBI.
The 28-year-old Lukes, who will bat ninth, made his first career major-league start on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. He has seven at-bats with Toronto this year.
George Springer will be the designated hitter. Daulton Varsho will play centre field with Kevin Kiermaier getting the night off while Whit Merrifield plays left.
The Blue Jays go up against one of the top starters of the game in Tampa's Shane McClanahan. Yusei Kikuchi starts for Toronto.
