After being out of the Toronto Blue Jays' starting lineup for the series finale in Houston, Davis Schneider will return to the starting nine Friday against the New York Yankees.
Schneider will bat fifth and play left field as the Blue Jays open their third series of the season, facing Marcus Stroman in the Bronx.
Schneider has homered in each of his two starts this season, including a game-winning blast off Astros closer Josh Hader on Tuesday.
While he has appeared in four games this season, Schneider has only taken at-bats in games that he's started, slashing .250/.333/1.000 over eight at-bats.
Over the past two seasons, Stroman has thrown his sinker and cutter over 56 per cent off the time — two pitches Schneider has matched up well with over his career. He has hit a combined .308 and slugged .590 against them since his debut in 2023.
The Blue Jays also made a roster move Friday morning. They recalled veteran right-hander Paolo Espino and designated Wes Parsons for assignment.
Parsons had appeared in two games this season, and allowed six runs over five innings. He allowed two home runs on Wednesday in Toronto's 8-0 loss to Houston.
Espino, 37, made one start for triple-A Buffalo this season, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing only four hits. He also had a strong spring training with the Blue Jays, posting a 2.65 ERA and 24 strikeouts over 17.0 innings of work.
