Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll was unanimously named the 2023 MLB Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award in the National League Monday night.
The award, voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA), was revealed on MLB Network.
The 23-year-old became the first rookie ever to hit 25 home runs and steal 50 bases while guiding the Diamondbacks to their first World Series appearance since 2001 and post-season appearance since 2017.
Carroll becomes just the 14th player to win by a unanimous vote after claiming all 30 first-place votes.
New York Mets starter Kodai Senga and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman were the other two finalists for the award.
Senga finished second after receiving 22 second-place votes and five third-place votes.
Carroll tied for the NL rookie lead in home runs, and finished first in runs scored (116), stolen bases (54) and fWAR (6.0) while slashing .285/.362/.506.
He also becomes the first Diamondback to win Rookie of the Year. Wade Miley was the highest-finishing Arizona player after finishing second to Bryce Harper in 2012.
A first-round pick out of Lakeside High School in Seattle in 2019, Carroll made a 32-game audition with Arizona in 2022, posting an .830 OPS, before bursting onto the scene in 2023. The left-handed hitting outfielder made his All-Star debut as a starter on the National League squad in front of his hometown in July.
Monday was the first of four straight days of MLB BBWAA awards announcements. The Manager of the Year will be awarded on Tuesday, followed by the Cy Young on Wednesday and the MVP on Thursday.
