Dodgers owner makes $100M donation to wildfire relief

Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter, the Walter Family Foundation, and the Dodgers Foundation have donated $100 million to Southern California wildfire recovery and rebuilding.

Part owner of the Dodgers, Magic Johnson, announced the contribution on Tuesday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom tapped Johnson, Walter, and 2028 Olympics organizer Casey Wasserman to lead a new philanthropic group called LA Rises.

According to the announcement, the group will work to unite local business leaders in the recovery and rebuilding of the Los Angeles regions affected by the wildfires.

“Los Angeles will rise again — stronger, more united, and more resilient than ever,” said Newsom in a statement on Tuesday. “Just as California came together to fight the fires, we’ll work together to rebuild.”
