Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker has confirmed that he will return to the team for the 2023 season and is working to finalize his contract.
The 73-year-old Baker won his first World Series title as a manager in his 25th season when the Astros dispatched Philadelphia in six games.
“I always said if I win one, I wanted two,” Baker said on Tuesday. “I’m going to try to keep my word. I like to keep my word, especially like this. This was as much fun as I’ve had ever. I had forgotten about how much fun the ticker-tape parade was because it’s been 40 years since the last one I went to, and what it means to me and my family and the city of Houston.”
Both Baker and general manager James Click need new contracts as theirs expired at the end of the season. Baker joined the Astros ahead of the 2020 season after manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow were fired for their role in the team's sign-stealing scandal.
