Veteran infielder Eduardo Escobar has been granted his release from his minor-league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and is now a free agent, the team announced Friday.
Escobar was a late scratch from Toronto's lineup on Friday, signalling that the release was coming.
The Blue Jays signed Escobar to the minor-league deal on Feb. 16 with an invite to spring training.
A 35-year-old switch hitter, Escobar posted a .411 OPS in 41 at-bats this spring, hitting one home run and striking out 17 times.
He hit .226/.269/.344 in 2023, splitting time with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels.
