Former All-Star first baseman Victor Martinez has joined the Blue Jays as a "special assistant to the organization," per the team's website.
Martinez played 16 seasons in the majors, spending long stints in Cleveland and Detroit.
Per MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Martinez built a relationship with current Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro and GM Ross Atkins during their time together in Cleveland.
Martinez retired in 2018 with a .295 batting average and 246 home runs in 8,166 plate appearances.
No further details have been released on the role Martinez will play in the front office.
