The Toronto Blue Jays made multiple roster moves on Monday to cut down the number of players on the 40-man roster.
The main move came from left-handed reliever Génesis Cabrera, who has elected free agency after being waived by the Blue Jays.
Cabrera, 28, was one of Toronto's most reliable relievers in 2024, posting a 3.59 ERA over 62.2 innings while racking up 50 strikeouts. He was arbitration-eligible this off-season and was projected to make $2.5 million.
The Blue Jays also announced that right-handed reliever Luis Frías cleared waivers and is now a free agent.
Frías, 26, was claimed off waivers by Toronto during the season. He pitched in four games with the Blue Jays, allowing eight earned runs and three walks and struck out five.
With two relievers out to the door, Toronto claimed right-handed pitcher Michael Peterson off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Monday.
The 30-year-old Peterson made his MLB debut in 2024 with the Los Angeles Dodgers before being claimed off waivers by Miami. A six-foot-seven righty, Peterson threw 19.2 innings between the two clubs, posting a 5.95 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Emmanuel Ramirez, 30, was also designated for assignment by the Blue Jays, removing him from the 40-man roster. Toronto claimed Ramirez off waivers from Miami in early September. He pitched in five games for triple-A Buffalo after the claim.
The Blue Jays also placed infielder Luis De Los Santos on waivers. However, he was claimed by the New York Mets.
As is required in the off-season, Toronto reinstated Jordan Romano, Alek Manoah, Daulton Varsho and Will Wagner from the 60-day injured list.
The Blue Jays' 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.
