• Guerrero Jr. among five Blue Jays named finalists for 2022 Gold Glove awards

Five Toronto Blue Jays are among the finalists for the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove awards, given annually to players based on "overall fielding excellence."

Third-baseman Matt Chapman, a three-time Gold Glove winner, is in contention again as are first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and right-hander Jose Berrios, who are both looking for their first wins. Mid-season acquisitions Whit Merrifield and Jackie Bradley Jr. are also finalists. Bradley Jr. won the award in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox.

The manager and six other coaches from each team vote on the award. The voters cannot select anyone from their own teams and only vote for people in their own league. Additionally, the SABR Defensive IndexTM (SDI) — a measure of the number of runs saved by a player's defensive performance over the course of a season, compared to the average defensive player at that position — accounts for a percentage of the voting totals.

Below are the finalists for the 2022 Gold Glove awards. The winners will be announced on Nov. 1.
