Toronto Blue Jays fans will get their first chance to see one of the many new players the club acquired at the trade deadline in action Wednesday afternoon.
Joey Loperfido will hit second and start in left field in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.
Loperfido was one of three players acquired from the Houston Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi trade. The 25-year-old outfielder made his MLB debut this season and brings a combination of speed and power in a utility role.
In 118 MLB plate appearances this season, Loperfido is hitting .236/.299/.359 with two home runs, two stolen bases and a 7/43 walks to strikeout ratio.
In other Jays news, catcher Alejandro Kirk is not in the lineup after leaving Tuesday's game with a left elbow contusion. Kirk was injured when he was hit by a pitch from Corbin Burnes in the sixth inning. With Danny Jansen traded to the Red Sox, Brian Serven will catch and hit ninth for the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Blue Jays recalled right-hander Paolo Espino to make the start in place of the traded Kikuchi. Espino, 37, has made two relief appearances for the Jays this season.
Jose Cuas was optioned to triple-A in a corresponding move.
