In a historic 28-5 rout of the Boston Red Sox, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had the hottest bat going Friday night — his six hits tied the Toronto Blue Jays' all-time single-game record by a player.
The record was previously held solely by Frank Catalanotto, who had a monster game against the Chicago White Sox on May 1, 2004.
Gurriel Jr. went 6-for-7 hitting five singles and a double with five RBIs and three runs scored.
The left fielder, a career Blue Jay, has been batting out of his mind this season, and this outing raised his batting percentage to a gaudy .318.
