Less than a week after returning from the injured list, Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodriguez was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning.
Rodriguez was pinch-ran for after hitting an RBI single. During the at-bat, he moved out of the way of an inside pitch and called for the Mariners athletic trainer before continuing.
The 23-year-old was playing in just his third game since making his way back into the Mariners lineup after spending three weeks on the IL. He suffered an ankle injury while trying to make a leaping catch against the wall against the Houston Astros.
A two-time All-Star, Rodriguez is slashing .260/.311/.370 with 11 home runs, 18 stolen bases and 10 doubles in what has been a disappointing campaign.
Rodriguez has only served as the Mariners designated hitter since returning, with manager Scott Servais saying there was "no timetable" for his return to the outfield.
Seattle entered play Wednesday with a 63-57 record, 1.5 games back of the Astros in the AL West and 2.5 back of the Kansas City Royals for the third AL wild-card spot.
