"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened” — Vin Scully, 1988.
The sports world lost an icon on Tuesday night, one whose legendary calls bringing Major League Baseball's greatest moments to living rooms across North America spanned decades.
The longest-tenured broadcaster with a single team in pro sports history, Vin Scully was there for the Dodgers' greatest moments — whether in Brooklyn or Los Angeles — from Jackie Robinson to Sandy Koufax to Clayton Kershaw. Scully called games for so long he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1982 but didn't retire until 2016.
But Scully's impact transcended just one team — he was known as the voice of baseball, the soundtrack of summer by fans across the sport. And for broadcasters, he was simply known as the G.O.A.T.
From baseball fans to hockey fans, broadcasters to athletes, the sports world poured out with tributes to recognize the legendary figure.
