After leaving the second half of Thursday's doubleheader early with cramping, Shohei Ohtani is back in the Los Angeles Angels' lineup Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ohtani will be hitting second as Los Angeles' designated hitter against Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays.
Gausman owns the career matchup between the two, holding Ohtani hitless in the six at-bats in which they've faced off, striking out the 2021 AL MVP four times.
Coming into the series, Ohtani leads MLB with 38 home runs after adding two to his total Thursday — shortly after throwing a complete game shutout against the Detroit Tigers.
The Angels come into Toronto winners of eight of their last 10, on a four-game win streak and just three games behind the Blue Jays for the final wild-card spot.
Lucas Giolito will make his debut for his new squad after Los Angeles acquired him and reliever Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. He pitched against the Blue Jays on July 4, allowing two runs and four hits over six innings.
Coverage of the game starts at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet 590 The FAN.
