Texas Rangers ace Max Scherzer was forced to leave a start against the Toronto Blue Jays after appearing to injure himself throwing a pitch.
After recording the first out in the sixth inning, Scherzer delivered a curveball for a strike to Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette. Scherzer had a clear grimace on his face while throwing the pitch and catcher Jonah Heim instantly went to the mound to check on the veteran right-hander. Rangers coaches and trainers also went to the mound and after Scherzer threw some practice pitches, he pulled himself from the game.
The Rangers later said Scherzer left the game with a right triceps spasm.
Right-hander Jose Leclerc replaced Scherzer and retired Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero to finish the inning.
Scherzer finished the game allowing three hits in five and one-third innings while recording two strikeouts and just one walk.
The Rangers led the game 3-0 at the time of the injury.
