Two heated rivals put their differences aside to swing a deal on Wednesday.
The Boston Red Sox acquired catcher Carlos Narvaez from the New York Yankees in exchange for minor-league righty Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international bonus pool space, the teams announced.
To make room for Narvaez on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox designated utility player Enmanuel Valdez for assignment.
Narvaez, 26, made his MLB debut with the Yankees in 2024 and made four starts behind home plate for the team. In his short stint in the majors, he batted .231 over six games.
With the Yankees' triple-A affiliate, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Narvaez batted .254 with 11 home runs and 58 RBI last season.
Rodriguez-Cruz, 21, was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Amateur Draft. Last season, the Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, native logged a 2.91 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) split between single-A Salem and high-A Greenville.
